JISC infoNet has developed a project methodology specifically tailored to the needs of the education sector which can be adapted for any size of project.
Target Audience
The day is aimed at senior managers and any other staff who need to manage projects in Further Education Colleges or Higher Education Institutions. Aimed at people with some experience of projects or those who have been on the one-day Project Management Workshop, this workshop will concentrate on the roles of senior managers, ensuring that projects meet strategic needs and focuses on the benefits rather than the short-term outputs of projects. Some prior experience of, or participation in, projects will be advantageous. The event is suitable for staff involved with projects from the senior management perspective and project managers wanting to ensure their own approach meets senior needs. The content will be flexible to enable the workshop to be matched to the needs of delegates.
Outcomes
The workshop will be an interactive day aiming to introduce delegates to a structured approach to Strategic Project Division and will cover the following topics:
- Where does your project fit in? - The wider context, finding projects to fit your strategy, organisations and innovation, selecting projects
- What is your project going to achieve? - Outputs, outcomes and benefits, negative consequences, benefit dependencies and measuring benefits
- Who needs to be involved? - Keeping a strategic focus, links to decision makers, project and programme boards, the benefits manager role, what happens in reality
- How will you keep on track and focussed? - Stages, phases and milestones, managing by exception, managing stage boundaries, social software tools in project management
